How to Stay Permanently Offline in Facebook Chat

Facebook chat enables you to instant-message your Facebook friends.

Facebook is a social networking website that makes it easy to keep in touch with friends, family and acquaintances. While you may enjoy the News Feed and email features in Facebook, you may not appreciate the slightly obtrusive chat feature which pops up to the right of the page when you are logged in. If you don't want your friends to see when you are online or just aren't interested in the chat feature, you can permanently disable chat in a couple of clicks.

Instructions

1. Log in to your Facebook account.

2. Click "Chat" at the bottom right of your screen.

3. Click "Options."

4. Click "Go Offline."

Tips & Warnings

• To turn chat on again, just click "Chat" at the bottom of the screen.
