Many styles and colors of slippers are available on the market to keep your feet warm and cozy when walking on a cold floor. Crochet enthusiasts, pick up your crochet hook and two skeins of yarn and make quality ribbed slippers at home. Each slipper takes approximately one hour to make. The double strand of the yarn used when crocheting the slippers provides warmth, added cushion and extra strength to prevent wearing holes through the stitching.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the yarn end from the center of two skeins of yarn. Match the ends together. Tie a slipknot approximately 2 inches from the end of the crochet hook. Slide the slipknot on the hook. Chain two stitches. Note: The entire pattern is crocheted with a double strand of yarn.

    • 2

Stitch five single crochet stitches in the second chain from the crochet hook. Slip stitch the first and last single crochet stitch of the row together. Chain one stitch.

    • 3

Single crochet twice in the same stitch as the slip stitch. Crochet three single crochet stitches in each stitch for a total of 15 stitches. Slip stitch the row together. Chain one stitch.

    • 4

Single crochet one single crochet in the same stitch as the slip stitch. Single crochet in the next two stitches. Two single crochets in the next stitch. Repeat the pattern for the remainder of the row for a total of 20 stitches. Slip stitch the row together. Chain one stitch. Repeat Step 4 for a total of 25 stitches when making the men's and women's ribbed slipper. This section will cover the foot stopping at the ankle.

    • 5

Chain 11 stitches. Single crochet in the top loop of the second stitch from the end. Single crochet in the next nine stitches.

    • 6

Insert the needle through the top of the tenth chain loop and through the stitch in the last row crocheted on the foot portion of the slipper. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook. Pull it through both stitches. Chain one stitch.

    • 7

Single crochet in the front loop of the stitch of each of the 10 stitches just completed. Chain one. This is creating the ribbed portion of the slipper that covers the ankle.

    • 8

Single crochet in the back loop of each of the nine stitches just created. Repeat Step 6 to secure the ribbing to the main body of the slipper. Continue to repeat Steps 7 and 8 around the circumference of the main body of the slipper.

    • 9

Complete the last chain stitch. Cut the yarn approximately 2 inches from the end of the crochet hook. Pull the cut end through the chain stitch. Pull the yarn tight to form a knot.

    • 10

Weave the cut end of the yarn back and forth through the top edge of the slipper. Cut any excess yarn that is visible.
