How to Write a Golf Sponsorship Letter

How to Write a Golf Sponsorship Letter thumbnail
Corporate sponsorship helps offset the high costs of golf tournaments and charity events.

Many golf tournaments and events are sponsored by companies and organizations that seek advertising and promotion opportunities. Some corporations and businesses also sponsor golf events because they believe in the cause for which the golf event is being held. Soliciting corporate sponsors for golf tournaments and activities requires you to concisely describe the nature of the event, the amount of sponsorship needed and any perks or benefits a sponsor will receive.

Instructions

    • 1

Use business letter block format, which requires 1-inch margins and left-justified paragraphs that line up on the left-hand side of the page.

    • 2

Type your name and address, and then type the date. Type the name of the company or organization and the address of the recipient.

    • 3

Write a salutation. For example, you can write, "Dear Mrs. Johnson," or "Dear Mr. Smith." In the event that you do not have a specific recipient's name, you can write, "To whom it may concern."

    • 4

Begin by introducing yourself and your organization, and state the nature of the upcoming event that requires sponsorship. For example, you could write, "I work as the executive president of the John Smith Golf Club, which is holding its annual Father and Son Golf Outing to benefit local cancer research." Provide details such as the number of participants you expect to attend, location, dates and media interest in the event.

    • 5

Briefly describe the history of your organization and its goals and achievements. If you are a charity, for example, it's more effective to write, "In 2010, our organization raised $1.2 million for pediatric cancer research," than to write, "Last year we raised millions of dollars." If you are a golf club, provide membership figures and other details that demonstrate long-term viability.

    • 6

State the amount of money you are requesting for sponsorship and describe exactly what the recipient will receive in return. This information should include how your event will display the sponsor's advertisements, such as on T-shirts and banners with the sponsor's logo. You should also indicate if you will provide complimentary VIP tickets, plaques of recognition, reserved table seating at event functions and first-look rights for future sponsorship opportunities.

    • 7

Conclude by indicating how important the recipient's sponsorship would be to your event and express gratitude for the recipient's consideration. Provide a deadline for a response and state that you are available to answer any questions. Type your contact information, including work, home and mobile phone, and an email address.

    • 8

Type a closing, such as "Sincerely" or "Best wishes," and write your name. Sign your name between the closing and your written name.

Tips & Warnings
