How to Embellish Leggings

How to Embellish Leggings thumbnail
Leggings have evolved from an exercise garment to fashion garment.

Leggings are tight fitting and stretchy pants typically worn under a skirt, short dress, large shirt or shorts. Leggings can be worn as either a fashion garment or for the practical purpose of protecting a person's legs from chafing during physical activity. It is possible to jazz up an old pair of leggings with embellishments. Leggings are easy and inexpensive to embellish, too; all you need is a few craft supplies and some creativity.

Instructions

    • 1

Sew or use fabric glue to attach sequins, rhinestones, crystals or metal studs to your leggings. Create designs such as stars or flowers with rhinestones, outline the cuffs or pockets with sequins or simply make a cluster of crystals or studs leading up the side of each leg.

Add splashes of color to white or light colored leggings by using a tie-dye kit found in craft stores. Tie dye will work the best with cotton leggings.

    • 3

Use old scraps of fabric to create patches on your leggings. Choose bright, colorful or patterned fabric for patches that stand out or create a more subtle look by choosing fabric a similar color to the leggings. Cut the fabric into a rectangle and sew it to the leggings. Embellish the patches with buttons, hand embroidery or fabric paint.

Attach iron-on designs to your leggings. Found in craft stores, iron-on designs can range from logos to letters and are easy to use.

    • 5

Create an edgy look by shredding your leggings. Use scissors to make small snips wherever you want the holes. Put the leggings on, and if you want the holes bigger, use your fingers to rip the fabric.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wash leggings by hand to avoid damaging them.
