How to Hem Pants With a Sewing Machine Attachment
Hemming pants is a frequent and simple sewing job. Although it's a simple job, it can also be aggravating. Using a needle and thread, or even trying to keep the pant leg straight as you sew it with a machine can be frustrating as the hem can unfold or be sewn in crooked if the pants move. Fortunately, the job can be made much easier with the proper sewing machine attachment. Hemming pants with a hemming foot attachment takes away the headache.

1
Snap the hemming foot onto the arm of your sewing machine. Set the sewing machine so that the needle is to the left about 3.5 mm.
-
2
Hold the edge of the pant leg up where you want to hem it. Fold the edge over twice so that it's only around 6 mm wide.
-
-
3
Slide the folded section into position under the foot. The hemming foot will keep it in place as the needle hems the pants.
-
4
Put the needle down on the fabric. Sew around 1 inch of the hem. This will keep the edge secure as you begin to hem the rest of the edge.
-
5
Lift the foot and raise the edge up so that it sits inside the scroll. The folded edge should sit inside the inner left of the scroll.
-
6
Sew along the edge of the pants. The hemming foot will pull up the edge and sew it along the same edge as the fabric you have already sewn. Hold the leg and help keep it lined up straight with the foot as you feed it through the needle.
