How to Crochet a Pan Scrubbie

Large hooks work up the scrubbie faster.

Pot scrubbers are a long-lasting alternative to plastic scrubbers and can go in the washing machine for sanitization. Made from worsted weight cotton yarn, crochet versions come in both square and round shapes and typically have a single crochet border added after working the piece. Experienced crocheters can work up a scrubbie in less than an hour, which makes it ideal for a last minute present for a wedding or open house.

Instructions

  1. Square Scrubbies

    • 1

Use a crochet hook to chain 25 stitches and turn the work.

    • 2

Single crochet the row, turn and repeat for a total of 25 rows. Create a knot at the end of the final row.

    • 3

Single crochet around the outside for a neat finish.

    Round Scrubbers

    • 4

Chain five and join to form a ring. Double crochet 10 stitches in the ring.

    • 5

Double crochet twice in each stitch. Join in the top of the first stitch.

    • 6

Double crochet twice, double crochet two stitches in the next stitch, and repeat this pattern. Join in the top of the first stitch and repeat until the work reaches the desired diameter.

    • 7

Work single crochet around the scrubbie and tie off.

Tips & Warnings

  • Gauge and size of hook aren't important for this pattern.

  • Smaller hooks will make smaller scrubbers.

  • Wash the scrubbers before using.
