Friendship bracelets are symbols of friendship that make a fun craft project for children of all ages. Typically made from lengths of colored string, the bracelets can be fashioned into many patterns. While more complicated designs are ideal for older children, younger kids will enjoy making simple braided friendship bracelets.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a ruler and scissors to measure and cut three 24-inch lengths of colored string. Choose one color or a combination of your favorite colors.

    • 2

Hold the pieces of colored string together so the ends line up. Tie a knot approximately 2 inches down from the top of the strings. This forms the beginning of the braided bracelet.

    • 3

Secure your colored string by taping it to a table or another surface, or placing a safety pin through the knot you made in Step 2 and pinning the colored string to your pants.

    • 4

Begin the braid by separating the strings so they lay side by side

    • 5

Place the string on the right over the string in the middle, to form a new middle string. Place the string on the left over the string that is now in the middle. This forms another new middle string.

    • 6

Pull the lengths of colored string tight and repeat Step 5, crossing the right and left strings over the middle string and pulling the braid tight. Stop braiding approximately 2 inches from the bottom of the friendship bracelet, or when the braided section fits around your wrist.

    • 7

Secure the end of the braided colored string friendship bracelet with a knot. If desired, give as a gift to a friend or family member.
