      Chain on your desired length of stitches. It will need to be a multiple of four plus three more additional stitches to correctly make the netting.

      Turn and chain five stitches. Skip two of the foundation row chains and simple crochet in the next stitch. Skip the next three chains, chain five more stitches and simple crochet in the next stitch. Repeat this until you have finished your first row.

      Make a single crochet stitch in each five chain space. Insert your hook under the entire loop and make a stitch over the chain instead of trying to insert it into a specific stitch.
