1
Measure the room and the furniture you intend to use. Make a floor plan incorporating these measurements and plot out furniture placement. It may be necessary to visually break up the room into smaller areas.
-
2
Paint the walls. Use a lighter color to give the illusion of more space. Or paint the straight portions of the walls a deep, rich color and use a light, neutral color on the sloping areas for a dramatic effect.

Place furniture in the room. If you will use the attic as a bedroom, place the bed in the middle of the room to avoid hitting your head when you sit up in bed. Add two nightstands on either side. Site a desk or worktable in a similar position if using the attic as an office or hobby room. Set up a comfortable chair next to a side table and lamp as a reading area in a corner of the room.

Add accessories. Artwork can't be placed to advantage on a sloping wall. Use other accessories to add accents to the space. Choose a colorful comforter and add several decorative pillows if using the space as a bedroom. Place framed pictures and greenery on table surfaces, such as nightstands, dressers or bookcases. If using the space as an office, install open shelves or cabinets that fit below the sloping walls. Buy colorful baskets to decorate the shelves and act as additional storage. Add a bright rug for a splash of color.
