How Do I Change My Header From Numbers to Roman Numerals in the Microsoft Word Processor? thumbnail
You can easily change your header to show Roman numerals instead of standard numbers.

Headers typically contain information about your document that may be useful to the reader, such as the page number, author name, date or other relevant information. If you include page numbering in your header, Word automatically begins numbering from "1." However, some types of documents require a different numbering system, such as Roman numerals. These are often used in the first few pages of a book to number elements like the table of contents or preface.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Word and load the document with headers you want to change.

    • 2

Double click the page number in your header to open the Headers Design tab on the ribbon.

    • 3

Click "Page Number" and select "Format Page Numbers" from the menu.

    • 4

Click the down arrow next to "Number format" and scroll down to select one of the Roman numeral options. You can select either lowercase or uppercase Roman numerals. Click "OK." Word will automatically change the existing page numbers to Roman numerals.

    • 5

Click "Close Header and Footer" to return to your document.
