How to Attach a Ribbed Shirt Cuff to a Sleeve
Clothing items such as women's blouses and men's dress shirts feature special cuffs at the end of their sleeves called placketed or set-in cuffs. They are circular-knit garment cuffs that are anchored to the sleeve by a fold of material in a slit of the sleeve called a placket. With household sewing supplies, you can add a professional-quality cuff to the end of coats, jackets or other sewing projects.

Fold the cuff pieces horizontally in two, with the right sides facing inward, and then sew along the shorter ends.
-
-
3
Cut off two of the corners of the seam allowances, one at each end.
-
4
Turn the cuff right-side out.
-
5
Cut a slit at the end of the sleeve and overlock (serge) the edges.
-
6
Turn the seam allowances inward, then edge stitch on the "right side."
-
7
Fold the slit that you cut, keeping the right side on the inside, and then sew across the bottom of the slit.
-
8
Fold the ease of the sleeve's end into soft pleats near the split.
-
9
Sew the raw edges of the cuff to the end of the sleeve with the cuff's right side against the sleeve's wrong side.
-
10
Turn the seam allowance back inside the cuffs and press them into place.
-
11
Pin the edge of the cuff that you baste-stitched earlier onto the previous seam and edge stitch them together from the "right side."

Sew any desired buttonholes and buttons.
