How to Crochet Elf Socks
The holiday season makes us dream of sugar plums, festive decorations and little elves scurrying around helping to fulfill our desires of spreading joy. Homemade gifts make all those dreams come true for all of the guests of this wondrous season. You can make elf socks to warm their feet and their hearts with delight. Learning the traditional granny square pattern will make these cute elf socks worry free. This pattern makes any size sock for any size of elf, from the smallest of babies to larger adult feet.
Instructions

1
Measure the length of the sole of the foot from heel to toe. Add 4 to 5 inches to the measurement for the length of the elf sock for an adult. Add less toe measurement for smaller sizes.
-
2
Crochet a granny square large enough to match the measurement for the elf sock. Chain three and join loop with a slip stitch. Chain three, counts as one double crochet. Crochet two double crochets into the loop and chain one. Crochet three double crochets into the loop and chain one. Repeat twice more for a total of four sets of three double crochets.
-
-
3
Join with a slip stitch to the top chain three stitches at the beginning of the row. Chain three and crochet two double crochets into the chain-one space. Chain one and crochet three double crochets into the same single crochet, forming a corner. Crochet three double crochets in the next single crocheted space. Chain one and crochet three more double crochets into the same single crocheted space. Repeat the same three double crochets, chain one and three double crochets into each of the remaining single crocheted spaces.
-
4
Join the row in the same manner as the first row. Chain three and crochet two double crochets into the single crocheted space. Chain one and crochet three double crochets into the single crocheted space. Crochet three double crochet into the space between the two sets of three double crochets on the side of the square. Crochet three double crochet, chain one and three double crochets into the next single crocheted space.
-
5
Continue this pattern around the square and join as previously stated. Continue rows in this fashion until the size of the square measures the desired size.
-
6
Slip stitch to the corner single space. Tie off the crocheting, leaving a 2-foot length of yarn on the granny square.
-
7
Fold the granny square diagonally into a triangle shape, placing the point with the loose yarn at the single point area of the folded triangle.
-
8
Sew one side of the triangle shape together from the single corner point to the point where two corners meet. This forms the sole of the elf sock. Sew around the corner or heel of the sock up 3 inches and tie off. Turn the front point of the elf sock down. Pull the toe point upward.
