How to Dye Lambskin From Tan to Black

How to Dye Lambskin From Tan to Black thumbnail
Dyeing lambskin is cheaper than buying new lambskin.

Lambskin is a material used in many outfits and other accessories, such as rugs, carpets and furniture. Though finding tan lambskin is not difficult, searching for black lambskin to add style to a room or outfit, may be difficult. Dyeing lambskin is a simple process requiring few materials. Because black is such a dark color, the dye will cling to the material, creating a rich, natural looking color.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of gloves and an apron. These will protect you from staining your skin or clothes during the dyeing. Remove any jewelry that you may expose to the dye, such as rings, watches and bracelets.

    • 2

Heat your water to approximately 125 F. Pour the black clothes dye powder into the bucket. Follow the instructions on the packet for the amount of water to add to the bucket. Dip the lambskin into the water to saturate it.

    • 3

Pour the hot water into the bucket and stir carefully. Do not let the hot water and dye come into contact with your skin. Place your lambskin into the water and dye.

    • 4

Let the lambskin soak in the dye for about 30 minutes. Stir it slowly and occasionally so the dye reaches all parts of the lambskin. If the lambskin is not as black as you want, let it soak for up to another 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    • 5

Remove the lambskin and rinse it off with room -emperature water until the water is clear and contains no dye. Run cold water over the lambskin for about two minutes. Hang up the lambskin on a drying rack. Do not put it in a dryer.
