How to Stop Fur Clothing From Shedding
Garments made of fur are expensive and require individual care. You can take several steps to protect the quality of your investment. Fur care guidelines differ from care guidelines for typical clothing. A little thoughtful planning can ensure that your fur garments last for years, if not generations, to come.

1
Place the garment on a broad hanger that can easily support its weight. Don't use a hanger with plastic or rubber grips, or clips of any kind.
-
2
Store the garment without putting it in a garment bag. Though you may think putting the item in a garment bag will further protect it, the bag can rub against the fur. Rubbing causes friction, and friction pulls on and breaks fur.

3
Store the garment in a separate place in the closet. Don't let other garments press or rub against it. It may seem like overkill to clear a space just for the garment, but contact with other clothing pulls and breaks fur.
-
4
Avoid exposure to mothballs. They can cause fur to shed or break.
-
5
Store the garment with a professional furrier during the time of year you're not using it. Heat and humidity are especially detrimental to fur. A furrier can store your garment in a temperature- and humidity-controlled locker to ensure it remains like new.
