Knitted soap refers to a knitted soap holder that encases a bar of fragrance soap. The knitted soap is placed in a drawer or closet to allow the scent from the soap to disperse in the area. Knitted soap patterns are available in many styles. Some are secured together with a drawstring while others are sewn closed to encase the soap permanently. Close knitted soap permanently with the same color yarn as the holder. The best instrument to use to close knitted soap is a blunt-end needle.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of yarn approximately 18 inches long.

    • 2

Fold the yarn in half. Thread the loop of yarn through the eye of the blunt-end needle.

For an easy threading process, place the folded end of the yarn over the shaft of the blunt-end needle. Squeeze the loop of yarn tightly between your thumb and forefinger. Pull the needle from the yarn. Turn the eye of the needle so it is parallel with the ceiling. Place the eye over the loop of yarn. Move the needle back and forth over the loop of yarn while moving the needle down, between your thumb and forefinger. This process compresses the yarn and allows the loop to easily pass through the eye of the needle.

    • 3

Pull the loop of yarn so it extends past the eye of the needle approximately 7 inches. The loop of yarn will form the knot when stitching the knitted soap together.

    • 4

Place the bar of fragrance soap inside the knitted soap casing.

    • 5

Insert the needle on one end of the seam in between the knitted stitches. Pull the yarn through the row of knitting, leaving 1 inch of the loop tail. Insert the needle through the loop. Pull the thread tight to secure the yarn to the knitted soap.

    • 6

Sew the two sides of the seam together. Insert the needle through the stitch directly across from the first. Pull the yarn tight. Insert the end of the needle in the next knitted stitch by the initial knot. Insert the needle through the stitch directly across the seam. Repeat the process to close the length of the knitted soap opening.

    • 7

Tie the last stitch off with a knot. Hide the tail of yarn inside the knitted soap by inserting the needle through the seam, along the top of the fragrance soap and out of the side of the knitted soap, approximately 1 inch from the stitching. Cut the tail.
