Choose from a variety of colors for your origami heart.

Give your sweetheart a homemade valentine by making one using origami. Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, uses a series of folds to produce various shapes. For Valentine's day, a heart-shaped origami is appropriate which you can then write on or decorate. You may use red, pink or white origami paper, or any square-shaped color or patterned paper. Origami paper is available in many colors and patterns, and often found at craft supply stores.

Place the piece of paper on a flat surface with the color-side facing down. Orient the paper so it is in the shape of a diamond in front of you. Fold it in half from top to bottom to make a crease and then unfold it. Fold the paper in half from left to right to make another crease and then unfold it. Fold down the top point to meet the center crease, pressing down firmly. Fold the bottom point up until it meets the top edge of the paper.

Fold the right side of the paper to meet the center crease, pressing firmly. Repeat for the second side of the paper until you are left with a shape that is similar to a heart. Flip the paper over and fold in the right corner slightly so that there is a flat edge on the right side. Repeat this fold for the left side.

Fold down the top-right corner, tucking it into the flat edge and repeat for the top-left corner. Flip the paper over to reveal your heart valentine.
