How to Stream Live Video With a Mac

Many Mac computers include built-in webcams for uploading live video to streaming websites. If you want to keep your social network contacts informed of your latest activity, stream live webcam video from your desktop or laptop computer. User-uploaded video websites enable you to stream video from your computer, and certain sites permit you to upload live video, which means your content becomes available online as you record it.       Connect a webcam to a USB port on your Mac, if it doesn't have a built-in webcam. Insert the installation disc and run the setup program.

      Browse to Livestream.com and create an account, if you don't already have one. Click "Sign in" at the top of the screen.

      Click "Webcaster" to open a pop-up video recorder. Click "Go Live" to begin streaming video footage from your webcam. Click "Stop" to end the recording.

      Click "Embed" at the bottom of the screen. Double-click the video link at the top of the screen and press "Ctrl-C" to copy it to your clipboard. Press "Ctrl-V" to paste the link in emails or social networking websites to generate traffic for your video.

    Ustream

      Connect your webcam to your Mac via USB. Insert the installation disc and run the device driver setup.

      Navigate to Ustream.tv to create a new account and sign in. Enter your email address, user name and password to log in.

      Click "Broadcast Now" at the top of the screen. Click "Allow" when Ustream asks to use information from your computer and webcam. Click "Start Broadcast" to begin streaming.

      Click "Stop" when you are finished. Click the "Share" tab at the bottom of the screen. Double-click the video URL to select it and press "Ctrl-C" to copy it to your clipboard. Paste the URL in emails or links to increase Web traffic.

      Connect your webcam to a USB port on your Mac, if it doesn't have a built-in webcam. Insert the CD to install the drivers and run the setup program.

      Browse to Youtube.com to register a new account or sign in with your Google account. Click "Upload" to go to the video-upload page, then click "Record from Webcam."

      Input the video information, including the title and any comments, at the top of the screen. Click "Save" to start streaming from your webcam.

Tips & Warnings

  • YouTube allows you to stream HD video from your Mac for up to 15 minutes at a time. Ustream allows you to upload videos with unlimited length but requires you to purchase the Producer Pro software to stream HD videos. Livestream requires a premium membership to stream widescreen HD video.
