How to Get an Android Shapewriter Keyboard for Evo

ShapeWriter was a text input keyboard for smartphones, including the HTC EVO. ShapeWriter allowed you to type words by dragging your finger over the letters of the on-screen keyboard. In June 2010, the company that made ShapeWriter was purchased by Nuance Communications. Nuance has released a new version of ShapeWriter with added functionality under the name FlexT9. You can install FlexT9 on your EVO through the Android Market.

      Open the applications screen on the EVO and touch "Market."

      Tap the magnifying glass icon and type "FlexT9." Touch the icon again or press "Enter" to search for the app.

      Tap "FlexT9" in the list of search results and tap the button under "Buy."

      Touch "OK" to accept the permissions and wait for the application to download.

      Press the "Home" key to return to the main screen.

      Press "Menu" and tap "Settings."

      Tap "Language & keyboard" and check the box next to "FlexT9 Text Input." The phone will display a notice about third-party keyboards. Touch "OK" to accept.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also choose the keyboard by tapping and holding on an empty text box, but you need to check the box next to "FlexT9 Text Input" first.
