If you have a T-Mobile cell phone, you can use it with a T-Mobile prepaid SIM card even if you do not have a T-Mobile service contract. Simply purchase a SIM card, activate it and place it in your T-Mobile cell phone. Prepaid SIM cards are attached to credit card-sized plastic holders referred to as activation cards or SIM holders. You can activate a T-Mobile prepaid SIM card online using the information on the SIM holder along with the information printed on the cell phone.

Step 1

Open a web browser and navigate to the T-Mobile prepaid activation website (see Resources).

Step 2

Enter the activation code for your SIM card. The activation code is printed on your SIM holder.

Step 3

Enter your personal identifying information. The only personal identifying information required for SIM card activation is your date of birth.

Step 4

Enter your location information. Select the state from which you are requesting service, the city nearest to you and the area code for your phone number.

Step 5

Enter the SIM card and phone information. Type in the SIM card's serial number, which is the 19-digit number printed on the SIM holder. Do not include the "F" at the end of the number. Type in your phone's serial number, which is the 15-digit number printed on the phone under the battery.

Step 6

Enter a PIN--the four-digit code you create that you will use to access and manage your prepaid account.

Step 7

Click the "Activate Phone" button to submit the information and activate your prepaid SIM card.
