How to Finish Off a Scarf Casting
Every knitting project begins with casting on, from the simplest scarf to the most complex sweater. Likewise, the process of moving from your cast on stitches to the rest of your knitting is the same, regardless of what you are going to be making. Casting on, in addition to casting off, is a basic knitting skill and term which you will see over and over again. Practice casting on and off before attempting to do start your project.

1
Cast on the number of stitches you desire. Remember, the more stitches you cast on, the wider your scarf will be. If you want a skinnier scarf, cast on fewer stitches.
-
2
Switch the needle with the cast on stitches to your left hand. Pick up the other needle with your right.
-
-
3
Insert the right needle into the first stitch on the left needle. This is the last stitch you cast on. Knit the stitch onto your right needle. Tug the tail of the yarn to tighten the stitch if it seems loose.
-
4
Knit across the rest of the stitches. You have finished casting on and completed your first row.

Tips & Warnings
For scarves, instead of knitting the first stitch of each row, you can slip the first stitch so give the edge a smoother look.
