How to Fold a Fancy Napkin Into an Animal Character

Apply origami techniques for folding fancy napkins into shapes.

Fancy napkin folds do not have to be limited to restaurants. While flowers are common napkin folds seen in restaurants, you can decorate your home dining table with napkin folds of animals. Create a butterfly with your napkin or other animals, which can be more appealing to children in your home. Napkin folding is similar to origami, the art of paper folding. Many of the techniques used for paper folding can also apply to fancy napkins in your home.

Things You'll Need

• Clear glass cup with a small opening (like a wine glass)

Instructions

1. Lay your square shaped napkin on a flat surface and fold the left and right side edges to the center.

2. Place your pointer finger down on the center of the napkin to hold the two side edges together as you spread open each of the napkin's corners to the fullest extent.

3. Press firmly down on the spreads to create a diagonal crease line.

4. Fold the bottom edge up 1 inch and do an accordion-fold until you reach the top edge of the napkin.

5. Fold the napkin in half.

6. Insert the folded side into a clear glass cup 1 1/2 inches in.

7. Spread the corner tips of the napkin down and you have a fancy butterfly napkin fold.
