Take five minutes to create an easy look for day or night.

A lazy bun does not have to mean a disheveled look. This hairstyle is relaxed, easy and looks more complicated than it actually is. Next time you want to throw your hair back into a basic ponytail, spend an extra few minutes to create a polished, yet casual, updo. It easily transitions from day to night and takes less than five minutes to complete. The lazy bun compliments straight, wavy or curly hair that is medium to long in length. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Dry hair thoroughly and remove any knots with a flat brush. Spray a volumizing hair spray onto roots and brush through.

    • 2

Pull hair back into a loose pony tail using a flat brush. For long hair, place ponytail high on the head close to the crown. For shorter hair, place ponytail closer to the nape of the neck. Avoid pulling the ponytail too tight.

    • 3

Push the ponytail slightly forward to create volume near the crown. Secure with an elastic hairband.

    • 4

Twist the ponytail slightly and wrap loosely around the elastic band to form the bun.

    • 5

Secure with bobby pins by making an "X" shape. Using bobby pins to hold the bun in place instead of an elastic hairband creates a loose and slightly messy appearance.

    • 6

Allow shorter pieces of hair to fall in the front to create a casual look. Spray with hairspray.

Tips & Warnings

  • For long hair, braid the ponytail before forming the bun to create another casual look.

  • Dress up the look with a velvet or satin headband or secure a hairclip on the side of the bun.
