Keeping toys clean and sanitary is important in a home, daycare or nursery setting. Children often spread germs in the play environment and hand-washing is only half the battle. Toys are subject to all sorts of abuse, from the outside elements to the inside of kids' mouths. LEGOs are hands-on toys that can be played with over and over and should be cleaned regularly, especially if they are enjoyed among multiple children. When you're doing your regular clean-up routine, make time to disinfect these little building blocks.
Step 1
Separate the LEGOs from each other so that each individual piece can be disinfected on every side.

Fill a bucket, sink or even the bathtub with enough water to immerse the LEGOs. Use warm water that is under 104 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid damaging the parts.
Step 3
Add mild bleach at a ratio of 1 tbsp. per gallon of water. Let the LEGOs soak for 10 to 20 minutes. If the toys are dirty, use a small scrub brush to clean in the crevices.
Step 4
Give the LEGOs a final rinse in cool water to remove any chemical residue and allow the pieces to air-dry.
