How to Ace Callbacks

Next to getting an acting role, getting a callback is one of the most exciting things that can happen to an actor. This is when the casting director asks to see you again after the initial audition. It is the most promising step in the acting process because it means a potential job. Many actors freeze up at this point in the process. There is no reason for this. The callback should be an easy ace since it is basically a repeat audition.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice your scenes. If the material is the same one you did before, it should be easy to remember. If it is new material, or you have more information about your character, incorporate that into your work.

    • 2

Show up for the audition on time as requested. Wear the same clothes, or similar style as you wore before. Wear your hair the same, along with any other jewelry or accessories.

    • 3

Perform your audition the same way as you did it before. Do not change anything unless you are asked to do so by the casting agent or the director. Often the point of a callback is to put you in different situations, or to perform a co-audition with another cast member.

    • 4

Maintain your composure and stay consistent if asked to return for more callbacks. This process can take up to five times, on occasion. Each time will be mostly the same, but slightly different.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that the casting director and director already like you. You already impressed them the first time. There is no need to try extra hard. Look at the process like a second date. You have already hit it off and now you are just trying to find out if you want to see more of each other.
