How to Crush Whole Pomegranate

Pomegranates are a superfood, high in antioxidants that help to remove free radicals from the body. However, the fruit can be difficult to eat as it is filled with seeds.For this reason, the easiest way to reap the health benefits of pomegranates is by drinking the juice. Select pomegranates that are heavy and free of bruising. When the flesh is pressed, it should yield to gentle pressure. If the flesh is too firm, it can be dried-out.

Place the pomegranate on the counter top. Use your palm to roll the pomegranate back and forth while applying pressure. This will break the juice pods without crushing the seeds. Mechanized juicers often crush the seeds, which cause bitterness in the juice.

Slice a hole through the flesh. Gently squeeze the juice through the hole into a glass.
