How to Replace the Front Felt on a Fridgidaire Dryer

The front felt on a Frigidaire dryer seals the dryer's drum to the front of the unit's panel. Worn felt seals will allow the drum to make contact with the panel, and clothing will enter the gap between the drum and panel. Users will notice a squeal emanating from the dryer and prematurely worn clothing as a result of a worn or missing felt seal. Replace the felt to maintain proper functioning of the dryer and keep your clothes from wearing out. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet to prevent electric shock while you replace the felt seal. Pull the dryer away from the wall to allow yourself room to remove the top panel.

    • 2

Pry the front of the top panel from the dryer with a flat head screwdriver or putty knife. Lift the panel and rotate it away from the top of the dryer.

    • 3

Look into the front of the dryer's cabin to find the door switch wires or wiring harness. The location of the wiring will vary based on your specific model. Disconnect the door switch wiring.

    • 4

Remove the front panel mounting screws with a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the front panel away from the dryer by its top. Lift the panel from the bottom of the dryer and remove it from the side panels.

    • 5

Place the front panel on the floor with the door-side down. Place a cloth or towel on the floor to protect the front of the panel.

    • 6

Remove the worn felt seal from the ring on the backside of the panel. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry the seal away from the ring then pull the seal from the ring by hand. Scrape any remaining felt from the seal with the screwdriver or putty knife.

    • 7

Apply high-temperature adhesive to the outside of the ring and allow it to set up for one minute.

    • 8

Place the new felt seal around the drum support ring. Press firmly on the seal as you work your way around the ring to bond the felt with the adhesive. Allow the adhesive to dry for 20 minutes before replacing the front panel.

    • 9

Align the bottom of the panel to the support clips on the front of the dryer. Lift the dryer's drum so that it is level while pushing the front panel into place on the front of the dryer.

    • 10

Replace the screws to secure the panel in place with the Phillips head screwdriver. Reconnect the door switch wiring. Lower the top panel onto the dryer and press firmly to snap it back into place.
