Before storing your ATV for winter, be sure it is prepared for the cold.

Sea Foam brand Deep Creep is a powerful lubricant, often used for engine fogging as well. Engine fogging is typically used on boat motors during winter storage but can be used on any type of motor that will be stored for long periods of time. Sea foaming an ATV is a term that actually refers to the engine fogging portion of winter storage. Engine fogging combined with other steps keeps your ATV engine safe and clean during storage.

Disconnect the battery. If possible, remove it and place it in a warm location. Attach it to a battery maintainer or trickle charger. This will hold your battery charge over the winter and extend your battery life.

    • 2

Disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the spark plug from your ATV. Set it aside and spray Sea Foam directly into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. If your ATV has more than one cylinder, repeat this process for each cylinder. Reinstall the spark plug and reconnect the spark plug wire.

Be sure the fuel petcock is in the off position. Drain the fuel from the float bowl of your carburetor. Consult your ATV manual if you are unsure how to do this on your ATV model. Open the air box and remove the air filter. Spray Sea Foam into the carburetor through the opening in the air box coating all inside surfaces thoroughly. Spray Sea Foam through the drain in the float bowl, coating the inside of that as well. This will prevent buildup of old gasoline during storage.

Be sure that your fuel tank is full, and add a fuel stabilizer. This will prevent the buildup of moisture in your fuel and fuel tank, causing the fuel to spoil over the winter months.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you restart your ATV in the spring, it will likely smoke as it burns off the fogging oil. Replace spark plugs and clean or replace the air filter after this initial restart.

  • If you choose to use your ATV during winter months, you must re-winterize it after use. Once the ATV has been started, the engine must be refogged before storage.
