Create a snow sculpture, then give it some color.

Snow days are inevitable when you live in the midwest and northern states. Fortunately, snow days provide parents and children with some much-needed family time. One activity the family can participate in together is creating a large snow sculpture in the front yard for all the neighbors to see. Once the sculpture is created, it can be colored with some homemade spray paints.

Instructions

    • 1

Set out an empty 16-oz. spray bottle for each color you intend to make. Place a sticky label on each spray bottle and label it with the color you plan to put inside.

    • 2

Squeeze 30 drops of food coloring in each spray bottle. The color of food coloring should match the label on the spray bottle.

    • 3

Fill each spray bottle with water. Screw the top back in place and shake to combine.

    • 4

Squirt over any large areas of the snow sculpture you wish to cover.

    • 5

Remove the lid to the spray bottle and brush on the homemade snow paint with a paintbrush to cover smaller sections of the snow sculpture. The paintbrush gives you more control.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clothing dye can be used in place of food coloring if needed.

  • Some sculptures to make include penguins, snowmen, dogs, cats, family members, dinosaurs and caterpillars.
