Crochet with the existing yarn until you have about 12 inches, or 30 cm, remaining and two loops left on your crochet hook.
-
2
Wrap the end of the new yarn around the hook, from back to front. Take the new yarn through the two loops so that you have two pieces hanging down. Tighten up by pulling on the old yarn piece. Remove the loop from your hook.

3
Insert hook into the top center of the last stitch. Work a yarn forward by bringing the old yarn over the hook at the bottom the stitch. Being the tail end up through the stitch. Put your hook back through the loop and continue your pattern as normal.
