How to Line a Pillowcase Dress
Pillowcase dresses are lightweight summer dresses for children that are easy to make and a great way to show off your environmentally friendly recycling side. The closed end of the pillowcase is cut open and a channel created to thread ribbon through for the ribbon shoulder straps. Unfortunately, many pillowcases are made of such lightweight material that these dresses are often completely see through. You can easily add a lining underneath the dress to make it a modest addition to a child's summer wardrobe.

1
Untie the ribbon shoulder straps and stretch the channel at the top of the dress so that it lays flat.
-
2
Turn the dress inside out and smooth it out on your working surface. Measure the length and width of the front of the dress and add 1/2-inch to the width. Cut two rectangles according to these measurements to make a lining panel for the back and front of the dress.

3
Lay the two lining fabrics on top of each other on your work surface with the good sides together. Sew the long side seams. Sew about 1/4-inch away from the edge of the fabric.
-
4
Fold over 1/2-inch of fabric at one short end of the lining fabric. Iron the fold flat and sew a straight stitch across to make the hem.
-
5
Turn the lining fabric right side out and slide it over over the pillowcase dress. The pillowcase dress should still be inside out. Pin the rough edge of the lining fabric to the seam line of the channel at the top of the dress. Sew the lining to the dress with a straight stitch.
