How to Crochet Twirled Ponytail Ties
With a steel crochet hook and cotton doily thread, you can create fancy twirled ponytail ties. The pattern might make it look a lot more complicated than it is: the process simply consists of making a series of cluster-stitches on a long strand of crochet chain that coils and twirls. The same pattern can be adapted to a twirled corkscrew winter scarf when a large crochet hook and thick wool yarn are used. A basic knowledge of how to crochet is needed before tackling this project, which is described below.

1
Create a loop in the end of the crochet thread with a slipknot. Pull the thread strand through the loop to make a chain stitch. Repeat, making a series of 50 chain stitches.
-
2
Insert the crochet hook in the fourth chain from the hook. Make a double crochet stitch in the chain by wrapping the thread around the hook, inserting the hook in the chain, pulling the strand through the chain and pulling the thread strand through the remain loops twice. Double-crochet in the next chain, make two double crochet in the next chain. Repeat this pattern in the next 20 chains.

3
Chain three, turn and double-crochet in the first stitch. Double-crochet the next stitch and make a two double crochet cluster stitch in the next stitch, repeating this pattern in the next 20 stitches.
-
4
Repeat the above row three more times, adding a third, fourth and fifth double crochet to the cluster stitch each subsequent row. Knot and cut the thread.

5
Wrap the chain ends of the ties around the ponytail and tie them in a bow, leaving the twirled ends free.
