How to Put the Deck Belt on a MTD 754-0329A

If you own an MTD lawn tractor in the MTD 400 series or the MTD 600 series equipped with a 38-inch mower deck, when it comes time to replace the mower deck drive belt, you can use the belt "MTD 754-0329A" as a replacement. This belt replaces the OEM or original equipment manufacturer belts listed as 754-0329A and 754-0433. Instructions

    • 1

Park the mower on level ground, turn it off and remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug to disable the mower.

    • 2

Locate and remove the mounting bolts from the deck mounting brackets on the left side, right side and front side of the mower deck. Use a socket set to remove the bolts.

    • 3

Raise the driver's seat and disconnect the battery cable connectors from the battery with a socket. Lift the battery out of the battery compartment and place it off to the side.

    • 4

Look down through the battery box and locate the 7/15-inch bolt that secures the transaxle pulley to the transaxle. Remove the bolt with a socket.

    • 5

Locate the anchor bolt spring on the left side of the tractor and remove it with a spring puller. This loosens tension on the mower deck drive belt.

    • 6

Remove the upper belt from the transaxle pulley and then slide the deck out from under the mower.

    • 7

Remove the belt from the pulleys on the mower deck and then place the new belt onto the mower deck. Slide the mower deck back under the mower.

    • 8

Place the belt over the transaxle pulley and then reconnect the anchor bolt spring.

    • 9

Secure the transaxle pulley to the transaxle with the bolt and socket.

    • 10

Place the battery back into the battery box and reconnect the wire terminals.

    • 11

Reconnect the mower deck to the mounting brackets with the hex bolts and socket. Replace the spark plug wire.
