How to Compliment a Girl on Her Appearance

Giving a girl a genuine compliment boosts her self esteem and can make her notice you even more. As long as your compliments are heartfelt and not just a ploy to get something out of her, she's likely to appreciate it, and you, for making her day. To give a girl a compliment on her appearance, be yourself and notice the subtle things about her so that you come off as really being interested and genuine as opposed to creepy or annoying.

Instructions

1. Acknowledge her with a smile. Say hello and approach her warmly. Give her a safe distance and respect her personal space if you don't know her very well. Notice something about her that you want to compliment. Realize that what you're commenting on doesn't have to be complex; rather, you should simply compliment something appropriate that you notice immediately when you see her. Avoid the obvious, like telling her she's pretty or that she's tall.

2. Be genuine and give her direct eye contact. Mention something she has on or something different about her, such as her hair or make-up. Provide detailed compliments that focus on specific attributes and not features that are entirely general. Comment on an accessory or her outfit by saying something like, "Wow, that's a colorful shirt. It makes your eyes look so blue," or "I've noticed you always have the neatest jewelry on. Where do you get your stuff?" Use your compliment as a way to strike up a conversation with her.

3. Maintain eye contact while smiling. Gently touch the item you've complimented, as long as you can do so without violating her. Lightly tap the bracelet or ring that she's wearing or touch the fabric on her blouse near her arm or shoulder.

4. Finish your compliment with a follow-up statement that gives her another small compliment or supporting statement. Say, "You have such a great sense of style," or "Your smile just lights up a room." End the conversation without expecting anything in return.
