How to Decorate for an Elegant Caribbean Dinner

Decorating for an island-inspired dinner does not require living on an island.

Dinner parties, in addition to being entertaining and enjoyable, are one way to show off your host or hostess abilities. Aside from the menu, throwing an elegant Caribbean-themed dinner party requires the proper decorations to create a Caribbean ambiance, even if you are nowhere near the Caribbean. While decorating for your Caribbean dinner party is fun and whimsical, keep it elegant by following a few simple guidelines that will have your guests raving about your superior party-planning skills.

Instructions

1. Stay neutral with colorful accents. Place a white linen table cloth over your table and to add color with accessories and tableware.

2. Use light blue or green table ware. For an even more Caribbean-style flair, set the white table cloth using light blue plates, light green bowls and linen napkins in the same color. Wrap your napkins in seashell napkin rings.

3. Create centerpieces using crystal bowls and vases in different sizes. Place sand in some, shells in the others and use small white votive or tealight candles in between vases and bowls to create mood lighting.

4. Go with flowers instead of sand and candles. Keep your centerpieces small by placing a few large lilies or orchids in a small glass bowl in the center of your table; vibrant colors add luxury to your decorations.

• Food and beverage is not a decoration, but it should coincide with your Caribbean theme to create the most elegant affect; keep food light and tasteful, and serve classic drinks such as champagne, white wine and martinis.
