MacBook internal components vary widely depending upon the model type.

Every MacBook laptop contains a unique serial number that allows Apple support technicians to identify the model of the computer. You can also identify your MacBook's model type by entering its serial number into the Apple support website. You can locate this serial number within the "System Profiler" application on your computer.

    • 2

Click the "More Info" button in the window that appears. Look at the number next to "Serial Number (System)." Write this number down on a sheet of paper.

    • 3

Open a Web browser on your computer. Go to the Apple support website at selfsolve.apple.com. Enter your computer's serial number into the designated box. Click the "Continue" button. The next page will display your MacBook type and the year it was produced.
