How to Convert a Karaoke LaserDisc to CDG

Increase your collection of karaoke songs using a CDG burner.

Karaoke files consist of an audio track without vocals and a graphics track that consists of lyrics. A karaoke laser disc purchased at an online or retail store contains files in the format "CDG." Though these files play on karaoke software or on a karaoke machine, they cannot be saved to the computer using typical CD-burning methods. Placing files on your computer creates a backup of a disc and allows you to search for files quickly and efficiently.

Instructions

    • 1

Download CDG-burning software (see Resources). Locate the program within the "Downloads" folder and double-click on it. Follow the onscreen instructions of the installation wizard to install the program.

    • 2

Launch the CDG-burning software by double-clicking on its icon.

    • 3

Press the "Eject" button of your CD disc tray. Insert the karaoke laser disc and load into the computer.

    • 4

Highlight the karaoke laser disc inside the window of the CDG burner. Press the "Rip" or "Download" button and wait for the program to save the CDG files to your computer.

    • 5

Check the download. Double-click on the "My Computer" window to locate the recently saved files. Right-click on one CDG file, scroll to "Open With" and select a karaoke program.

    • 6

Burn the CDG files onto a new disc, if desired. Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW. Highlight the files you wish to use and press the "Add" button, then the "Copy" button. Alter configurations as needed in the "Settings" window and press "OK."
