Tutorial to Set Up a Book in InDesign
If you've ever thought of writing and producing your own book, you've probably looked at various software programs that can help you with the production process. Adobe's InDesign is one of those programs -- use it to produce books, magazines, newsletters and other documents. The key to making a good book with InDesign is to make sure that you set it up properly at the start -- if you don't set it up right at the start and have to make adjustments, you'll need to go through your book one page at a time to double-check the layout.
Instructions

1
Open InDesign and select "Create a New Document."
-
2
Type in the number of pages you expect your project to have. If you don't know how long it will be, then leave the page setting at "1."
-
-
3
Check the box for facing pages. Leave the box for "Master Text Frame" unchecked.
-
4
Change the page size, if you need to. You can either select from one of the default page sizes, or type in your own height and width. You need to get this setting correct the first time -- though you can alter it later, it may mess up your layout.
-
5
Set the number of columns to "1."
-
6
Set your margins. You need to have margins as most printers can't print on the very edge of a piece of paper. The default margins work for most printers.

No matter how good your book looks, remember that what matters most are the words inside.
