How to Use a GPS on a Verizon Phone Without VZ Navigator

Having navigation on a cellphone can be a lifesaver if you are lost and do not have navigation features in your car. There are multiple navigation programs available for Verizon smartphones, including Google Maps Navigation and Waze, which are both free and available for Android phones in the Android Market. All of these apps are available to use without VZ Navigator, which is Verizon's mobile navigation application.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the program on your Verizon smartphone that features apps to download. On an Android, open the Android Market by clicking on its icon on the home screen; on a BlackBerry, open BlackBerry App World.

    • 2

Search for a navigation app in the search box on your phone's app program. Enter the keyword "navigation," or enter the name of a program, such as "Google Maps Navigation" or "Waze" for Android, or "TeleNav" for BlackBerry.

    • 3

Click on an app from the search results to view information about that app. Click "Install," "Download" or a similarly labeled button, depending on your Verizon phone, to download the navigation app. Some navigation apps are free, while others are not. Make sure to look for the price of the app before downloading. After the app has finished downloading, open it and use its GPS features.
