How to Bond Polyurethane to Polyester

Bonding polyurethane to polyester requires a cyanoacrylate glue that adheres parts made of different thicknesses and material compounds. A cyanoacrylate glue is a fancy way to say "rubber-cement-style" adhesive, according to Fat Lion. Cyanoacrylate glue is ideal for most craft and repair issues involving polyurethane plastic and polyester fabric. The glue includes a rapid bonding element to attach two dissimilar materials in no time. Buy cyanoacrylate glue at any home supply store.

Things You'll Need

• Latex gloves
• Safety pin
• Cyanoacrylate glue
• Nail-polish remover
• Cotton swab

Instructions

1. Slide on latex gloves to protect your skin. Remove the cap on the cyanoacrylate glue tube. Poke a safety pin into the hole to release the vacuum seal.

2. Add one gram of glue per inch of fabric surface area. Thin the layer of glue -- if necessary -- by spreading it around with the tip of the glue tube.

3. Press the fabric into the polyurethane with firm pressure. Hold for up to one minute to complete the bond.

4. Dip a cotton swab into nail-polish remover. Swipe the swab along any necessary areas to remove residual glue. Let the adhesion settle and solidify for eight to 12 hours before using the bonded object.
