How to Get a URL to Read Upper & Lowercase Characters

Many people are confused as to how capitalization works when dealing with URLs. When it comes to the main domain, it does not matter what you write. This means that "www.GOOGLE.com" is treated the same as "www.google.com" when typed into the web browser. However, everything after the domain extension, ".com" in most cases, is case-sensitive. The characters after the domain extension specify to the web browser a particular sub-folder or web page of the parent domain. You must type the proper capitalization after the domain extension to get a URL to read upper and lowercase characters.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your preferred web browser from the desktop shortcut or "Start" menu.

    • 2

Click the address bar at the top of the browser.

    • 3

Type in the full URL to the target page of the website you wish to visit with the proper capitalization. For example, "www.google.com/adsense/" is not the same as "www.google.com/ADSENSE/" when using a web browser.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the website's navigation menu to load a particular page if you are unsure how to properly capitalize the URL.
