Over time, built up dirt and moisture can lead to rust damage on your tractor.

All heavy machinery gets dirty over the course of time and hard use, including your farm tractor. Dirt that is allowed to build up on the metal components of your tractor can trap moisture against the body of the tractor and increase the speed at which rust can develop, shortening the usable life span of your farm equipment. However, you can help prevent rust problems from developing and keep your tractor in good condition by cleaning it with a scrub brush and water on a regular basis.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse your tractor off with a hose and sprayer or pressure washer. This will loosen and remove the topmost layer of dirt and debris from your tractor. Do not forget to spray down the tractor's implements and undercarriage.

    • 2

Fill the scrub bucket with water and soap. Since you are using a concentrated soap, make sure to use the correct mixture of soap to gallons of water your bucket will hold. The correct ratio of soap to water will be listed on the product instructions of your soap.

    • 3

Dip the scrub brush into the soapy water and begin scrubbing your tractor. Scrub all the dirt off of your tractor, starting at the top of the tractor and working your way down to the bottom of the tractor.

    • 4

Rinse the tractor with clean water from hose or pressure washer. Apply protective automotive wax the to tractor if desired. This will help protect the tractor against rust and keep the tractor looking new. Allow the tractor to dry naturally.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to avoid wetting areas where electronics are located. To best prevent rust, tractors should be rinsed after every use and washed and waxed thoroughly before they are stored for any length of time.
