Lacing enhances the appearance of simple bookmarks.

Creating laced bookmarks that contain poetry or religious quotations is an excellent craft idea for groups of children. The project is very inexpensive, requiring no supplies aside from ribbons, glue and card stock. Provide a list of verses that can be inscribed or pre-print them for easy pasting. Consider leading a Sunday school class in creating these inexpensive and thoughtful gifts around Mother's day to serve as a kind gift for the women in their life.

Instructions

    • 1

Develop a template that will serve as a basis for the bookmarks. A rectangle is a common choice for bookmarks, though hearts and even circles can be considered as creative options.

    • 2

Duplicate the template twice for each crafter by tracing the shape onto card stock and carefully cutting out. If the craft is to be performed by very young children, plan for a number of mistakes by cutting out several more bookmarks than you actually need.

    • 3

Take two pieces of card stock. Carefully dab a bit of glue stick in the middle and stick them together. Allow to dry completely without being disturbed.

    • 4

Using a hole punch, punch holes through both pieces of card stock along the edge of the bookmark. The holes should be approximately 1/4 inch from the edge of the bookmark, and 1/2 inch apart.

    • 5

Lace the ribbon through the holes in the bookmark. When the entire bookmark has been circumnavigated with ribbon, tie the loose ends into a bow.

    • 6

Record a favorite memory verse into the blank space in the center of the bookmark. Cut out and paste a printed version, if preferred. Present the laced memory verse bookmark as a gift.
