A spider web is a staple for Halloween decor.

Making your own Halloween decorations can be a great way to get your kids into the Halloween spirit. It also allows you to have decorations that no one else in the neighborhood has, and is often less expensive than purchasing decorations. Weaving a spider web is a relatively challenging craft, but is doable for children under adult supervision. You will need a few items you can probably find around the house. Soon you'll have a spooky decoration that can go indoors or out.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a frame using your thin-gauge metal wire. Bend your wire into a complete circle, then make five to eight slight bends in it so that the shape is not completely smooth. It should mimic the shape of a spider's web.

    • 2

Take your spool of thick white thread and tie the free end to a point anywhere on the frame. Wrap the thread once around the circumference of the frame. Use your wire cutters to cut the thread, leaving some extra so you can tie a knot to secure the thread to the frame.

    • 3

Wrap 15 to 25 anchor lines across the frame's diameter. Each time you wrap one strand of thread around the frame, tie it off at the other end of the frame. Weave the thread in the middle of the frame so that a strong center is formed.

    • 4

Weave cross threads around the anchor threads. Start in the center and work your way toward the metal frame, making a spiral shape.

    • 5

Hang your spider web from a nail where you want it. Good places are on trees outdoors or on doors in the home. Alternatively, prop it up against something.
