How to Refuel a Motorboat With a Removable Tank

Removable fuel tanks make it easy to refuel.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Turn off the motor.

  2. Step 2

    Extinguish all flames, and discontinue use of electrical devices.

  3. Step 3

    Close the tank breather.

  4. Step 4

    Remove the fuel line from the tank.

  5. Step 5

    Place the tank on dock or shore.

  6. Step 6

    Open the filler cap.

  7. Step 7

    Place the fuel-filler nozzle into the filler, and begin fueling.

  8. Step 8

    Hold metal nozzle against metal fuel tank to avoid static electricity.

  9. Step 9

    Fuel slowly to avoid overflow.

  10. Step 10

    Wipe up any spills.

  11. Step 11

    Replace the filler cap.

  12. Step 12

    Replace the tank in the boat.

  13. Step 13

    Open the tank breather.

  14. Step 14

    Ventilate all closed compartments for a minimum of 5 minutes.

  15. Step 15

    Turn on the bilge blower if the boat is so equipped. Run it for at least 5 minutes.
