How to Create a Portfolio in Blogger

Turn a Blogspot site into a portfolio.

Installing a portfolio theme into a blogspot website is fairly simple, but unlike other systems, you run the risk of losing previous content in the process. However, if you are beginning a new site, and plan for it to be a portfolio site or blog, then applying a portfolio theme early is certainly a good idea. Choose carefully at the beginning to save a lot of trouble later on. Blogspot offers a fine selection of gallery and portfolio templates.

Instructions

1. Find and download the template that you would like to use for your portfolio site. There are many places to find Blogspot templates, but blogspot.com, btemplates.com and bloggingtechnews.com are three good places to start.

2. Unzip the template download. There should be an .XML file inside once the folder is extracted.

3. Go to your dashboard at blogspot.com, and click "Design" in the upper right, then "Edit HTML" in the upper left.

4. Click the "Choose File" button in the "Upload a template from a file on your hard drive" line above the text editor. Browse for the .XML file, and click "Upload" to install it.

5. Add photos to your portfolio site by creating new posts and uploading photos. The template should place the photos for you.

Tips & Warnings

• You should click the "Download Full Template" link on the "Edit HTML" page before making any changes to an existing blog template. If you don't, your existing posts may not show up in your new template, and even if you replace it with the old template, your posts might still not show up. Only downloading the template and restoring it will provide a fix.
