How to Set Up a D-Link DIR-655 Router for the Fastest Speed

The D-Link DIR-655 wireless router features a gigabit WAN port and 4 gigabit LAN ports for full gigabit speed communications across wired Ethernet. The DIR-655 also features 802.11n wireless networking support for speeds up to 270 Mbps when used with corresponding 802.11n wireless network cards. The DIR-655 is capable of working with older wireless devices, which may not support the fastest speeds available. You can set up a D-Link DIR-655 wireless router for the fastest speed by manually specifying the wireless connection capabilities.

Instructions

1. Open a Web browser and type "192.168.0.1" without quotes into the address bar. Press "Enter."

2. Type in the "captcha" code, and then click "Log In."

3. Click "Wireless Settings," and then click "Manual Wireless Connection Setup."

4. Click "802.11n only" under "802.11 Mode."

5. Click "Auto 20/40 MHz" under "Channel Width."

6. Click "Save Settings."
