A reading corner is a quiet comfortable place to kick back with a good book. Adding a mosquito net to a reading corner can give it a feel of seclusion without being cut off from a larger room. It also gives the corner a dreamy feel perfect for slipping into the imaginary world of a work of fiction. Mosquito netting also protects against pesky insects for outdoor reading corners. Instructions

    • 1

Select a comfortable space with plenty of light.

    • 2

Measure how much space you have to create a reading corner. The size of your corner will determine how much mosquito netting you need. Mosquito netting that comes preset on a round canopy frame is best for small spaces. Larger spaces can use sheets of mosquito netting.

    • 3

Install an adjustable rod between the two adjacent walls of the corner where the reading will take place. Center the placement of the rod across the space where the reader will sit so that the netting can form a tent over the reader. If the reading corner is not actually a corner, screw hooks in the ceiling at two outer edges along the center of the reading space. Place a thin, lightweight rod or pole through the hooks and tie securely with a cord or twine.

    • 4

Drape the mosquito netting across the rod. Match the hems of the netting up with each other so that the center of the netting is on the rod above.

    • 5

Set a chair and pillows beneath the mosquito net. Drape the mosquito net on either side of the chair. For a roomier feel, stretch one side of the mosquito netting to the perimeter of the corner. Tack to the wall on one side to hold open or drape behind a bookshelf. Leave the other side of the net hanging freely from the rod.

Tips & Warnings

  • Adjustable curtain rods will not require additional tools, but if you choose a curtain rod that requires screws, then additional tools will be required
