You can prevent some of Firefox's configuration files from being modified.

The Mozilla Firefox Web browser stores information related to its configuration and recent usage history in database files. Those files are created and managed by SQLite, a lightweight relational database management system. In some situations, a computer administrator may want to prevent some of those files from being modified -- for example, when users are not to be allowed to create bookmarks on a shared installation of Firefox. You can instruct the Windows operating system to prevent any application, including Firefox, from writing to an SQLite file created by Firefox.

Instructions

    • 1

Exit Firefox if it is running.

    • 2

Click "Start," then "Computer" to open a Windows Explorer window. Type "C:%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles" into the Windows Explorer address bar, then press "Enter."

    • 3

Double-click on the folder corresponding to the Firefox profile you want to save; Windows Explorer will show one folder per existing profile. Typically, there will be a single profile and a single folder; the folder's name will have the ".default" extension.

    • 4

Right-click on the SQLite file you want to prevent from being overwritten, then select "Properties." Click on the check box next to "Read-only" until you see a check mark, then click "OK." No program running on Windows will be able to write to that file.
