How to Defend Against Screech in "Final Fantasy 13"

The "Screech attack" deals heavy damage to your characters in "Final Fantasy XIII." Neochu, a monster you fight when you undertake Mission 55, is the monster that doles out the Screech attack. When you fight against Neochu, you will also have to contend with his smaller Piochu allies. To defend against the Screech attack successfully, pay special attention to your preparation for the battle. The other half of your strategy is to defeat Neochu quickly, before he can hit your team with the attack.

Instructions

    • 1

Level up before the battle. Enter the battle with characters with high HP, or hit points, and the Screech attack will not completely annihilate them with one hit. The higher your level, the better.

    • 2

Preset the SAB-SEN-MED paradigm before battle. By doing so, you assign each of your three team members a role: "Saboteur," "Sentinel" and "Medic." The Saboteur casts spells to weaken the enemy, the Sentinel gets a boost in defense power and draws enemy attacks and the Medic casts healing spells.

    • 3

Make Vanille the leader and Saboteur of the battle. You will need her magic ability. Round out the party with a character who is skilled in magic to be the Medic, and a strong character to be the Sentinel.

    • 4

Deploy an Aegisol at the start of the battle. The Aegisol item will cast protective spells on your characters and increase their defenses.

    • 5

Cast the Death spell on Neochu with Vanille. The spell instantly defeats Neochu. You have a random one in one hundred chance of success.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is possible to defeat Nechu with the Death spell before he attacks you with Screech. This means you won't have to worry about leveling up and using the SAB-SEN-MED paradigm. Nevertheless, the odds of the Death spell successfully destroying Neochu early on in the battle are small.

  • Heal frequently during the battle. Your HP levels should be near maximum at all times in case Neochu unleashes the Screech attack.
