Opening presents at your bridal shower is more than just a fun opportunity to make your friends envious of all the fabulous gifts that you're getting -- it's also an activity that includes some very specific traditions. Making a ribbon bouquet out of bridal shower ribbons and bows is an old practice that goes with the ritual of opening presents. Instructions

    • 1

Make a pile of your ribbons and bows as you open your presents during the bridal shower. Have your friends write messages and wishes on the bows in marker to remind you of them. Keep as many ribbons and bows intact as you can.

    • 2

Cut a 2-inch hole in the center of a paper plate with scissors to make a base for your bouquet. If your base is a piece of cardboard, cut the cardboard into a circle the size of a small paper plate and cut a 2-inch hole in the center.

    • 3

Thread the longest intact ribbon through the center hole in your paper plate base. Leave a 3- to 4-inch portion of the ribbon on top. Sew this anchor ribbon to the base using an embroidery needle and embroidery thread until it is secure.

    • 4

Add bows and ribbons from largest to smallest, starting in the center and working outward. The bows and ribbons with the longest "streamers" should be toward the center. Make a loop in each piece of ribbon of approximately 1 to 2 inches and tie a knot at the end of the loop. Thread the tail of the ribbons through the center hole until the knots rest on the surface of paper plate base.

    • 5

Sew the bows closest to the center to the anchor ribbon with the embroidery needle and thread. Thread the streamers of the bows closest to the center through the base hole until you have added a 1- or 2-inch thick "tail" to the bouquet.

    • 6

Add the smaller ribbons to the outer rings of the bouquet according to your taste. They can either be glued to the base or anchored to the nearest flowers with a stitch or two. Continue until all bows and ribbons are used.

    • 7

Turn the bouquet over and gather the "tail" together and secure with the last ribbon. If the tail is too thick, secure it with a rubber band or some wire.
